Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a GP referral in order to book in with you?
No, parents/guardians are welcome to self-refer to our service.

What modes of therapy do you provide?
Dr. Diarmaid draws from a variety of therapeutic approaches including but not limited to: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT).

Do children/adolescents see the Psychologist on their own?
Autism assessments will involve a combination of parent-only and child-only sessions. Adolescents would generally see the Psychologist alone apart from the initial appointment and review sessions.

Confidentiality
Please note that all sessions with children/adolescents and parents are confidential. However, there are notable exceptions to confidentiality. For example, if the Psychologist becomes aware of information that suggests or explicitly states that a child under the age of 18 years is experiencing or has experienced neglect, emotional abuse, physical abuse or sexual abuse he is obliged to inform Túsla. Furthermore, if the Psychologist is concerned that the safety of the young person or the safety of somebody else is at risk this may also be discussed with a third party, such as other professionals. The Psychologist will generally liaise with the parents/guardians in relation to this beforehand if deemed appropriate.

Payment of Fees
Fees are payable directly to the Psychologist after the session by cash or card or can be paid in advance of the session by phone (089 6122605).

Can I claim back fees on my Private Health Insurance?
Dr Diarmaid is a Chartered Member of the Psychological Society of Ireland. You may be eligible for a refund/partial refund dependent on your individual private health insurance policy. Your insurance company will be able to advise you further. A receipt will be issued after each session.

Do you accept Medical Cards?
Unfortunately, we are not able to accept medical cards at this time.

Cancellations
Please provide at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel a scheduled therapy appointment. In cases where less than 24 hours notice is provided half the fee will be payable.
